Our Story

North Lodge Cafe is a community cafe in North Lodge Park, Cromer managed and run by a team of volunteers with all profits being donated to local Cromer charities.
The Café was previously managed by The Friends of North Lodge Park (https://northlodgepark.org.uk). Unfortunately, COVID hit and the café closed. When lockdowns were lifted it was still a worrying time and FoNLP could not maintain enough volunteers to run the Café and it became difficult for them to manage it in a financially viable way so they had no alternative but to close the Café.
Val McCampling, who was on the Committee of FoNLP was, like many, devastated to hear that the café was to close and wanted to do everything possible to see if there was a way to keep the café open.
Val approached Sue Pope, who had previously volunteered for many years in the Café to see if there was anything that could be done to get the Café open again. But Sue felt that it was just too much to take on alone.
But we believe things happen for a reason and when it was announced the Café was to close permanently, along came Carol! Together, we now had a team with the business acumen to achieve the re-opening of the Café.
We agreed a short term licence with North Norfolk District Council, set up a new not for profit company limited by guarantee and refurbished the Café. However, we still did not have the most important ingredient, a team of volunteers!
Volunteers are like “gold dust” and are vital to the success of any charitable organisation. Volunteers give their time for many reasons but certainly not for for money. We are a team of volunteers who want to give our time, purely because we love Cromer and feel privileged to be part of the Community; we want to give something back to say thank you.
After a successful recruitment drive, we opened the doors of the cafe once again on Saturday 2nd July 2022 for the busy summer season.
Sadly, due to a lack of volunteers, North Lodge Cafe closed it's doors again after Cromer Carnival Day.
